Social Media Club Vancouver

Leadership

The Vancouver Leadership Team

SMC Vancouver's Leadership Team consists of 8 positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Other positions include Programming, Promotions, Events, Partnerships, Membership and Digital Scribe. Our leaders manage volunteer teams that support crucial SMCYVR activities.

We have asked that all board members make a one-year commitment to helping SMCYVR, and attend at least 9 of the 12 monthly board meetings per year. At the end of 2011, we will determine our strategy going forward regarding voting, tenures, etc.

Tenets

A cohesive and successful leadership team requires a shared vision and a shared code of conduct. It's our intention to lead SMCYVR with the following spirit and tenets:

  • SMCYVR leaders will keep their egos and drama checked outside. The board is a drama-free zone and we will minimize it wherever possible.
  • SMCYVR will be upbeat, positive and fun. If it's not fun, what's the point?
  • SMCYVR will be warm and welcoming. No cliques! We all started somewhere and we all have much to learn. No one will be turned away or considered too "newbie" to participate.
  • We will be organized and work to ensure our members are getting true value out of the organization.
  • Our focus is more on business and business benefits rather than on technology, partying self-promotion. We are about social media in a business context—with lots of fun along the way.

President - Mitch Baldwin (facilitator, cheerleader, inspirer)

The SMC Vancouver President role is meant to perform as Chief Facilitator, Cheerleader and Inspirer. The President will set the leadership tone for the group. The President provides the drive and spirit of the group, and is ultimately repsonsible for its success or failure.

Like every board role, the President's role is a one-year commitment to the organization. For one year, this is your baby. The President looks for volunteers, facilitates interaction between the board members, makes sure the kids are playing nice, and uses carrot and stick to make good things happen for the membership. Presidents should have experience leading volunteers and dedicate the time to "do SMC right." While the President's role is collaborative and flexible, the President reserves the right to make decisions to move the group out of the morass of indecision when necessary.

Programming -  (event schedule, topics, speakers)

  • Managing the speakers, getting bios for VP Promotions

Our activities wouldn't be possible without partners. We partner with other businesses and organizations to find topics, speakers and venues for future activities. The Partnerships VP manages the relationships with the national Social Media Club parent organization, other important social media organizations (both national and local), and acts as our interface with local businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring or hosting upcoming activities. This person is responsible for:
