Social Media Club Charlottesville

 

We will use this wiki as an online whiteboard where we will develop topics, list potential speakers and venues and plot out events. If you would like to be keep up to date of our events, you can follow us in one of three ways:

As agendas become available, we'll add links to them from this page (click on the date). 2009 SCHEDULE

I. July Event, 7/15 (5:30-7:00) : Happy Hour

     a. Event Lead: Todd

     b. Format: Happy Hour

     c. Venue: 12th Street Taphouse

II. August Event, 8/19 (5:30-7:30) : Tumblr 101 and Meetup

     a. Event Lead: Todd

     b. Format: Guest Speakers – Marc LaFountain, Community Director of Tumblr

     c. Venue: Todd to talk to Main Street, if that does not work then Sasha will contact enoteca and/or Sipps

     d. Materials: Steve will bring projector

     e. Promotion: Once venue is confirmed, we will begin promoting the event online   

     f.  Fee: None

III. September Event, 9/16 : Social Media and the Music Industry

     a. Event Lead: Ann or Jason

     b. Format: Panel to discuss how the music industry is using and can use social media. Reps from Musictoday, Red Light , and the Car Transport service needs a moderator.

     c. Venue: Starr Hill Brewery

There will not be a December event, and we have tentatively planned a Social Media 101 seminar for January 2010 that will be a paid event. More to come.

LOCAL LEADERSHIP TEAM/VOLUNTEERS

The Social Media Club is looking for help shaping the future of social media in our local area. We have identified four roles that we needed support filling. These four people form the leadership team of the Charlottesville group. If you'd be interested in helping one of them, please send an email to Todd Wickersty. 7/29 Steering Committee Minutes

Goals of the Club

 

     a. Educate each other on the various uses and benefits of social media both professionally and personally

 

     b. Share local success stories of applying social media to better their business, community, cause, and/or personal life

 

     c. Create awareness within the community about social media and how one can get started with social media

 

     d. Implement and promote a local social media events calendar

 

     e. Provide face to face networking opportunities at all SMCCville meetings

 

Role of the Steering Committee

 

     a. Strategic decisions should be made by the committee

 

     b. Each member is expected to sit on a sub-committee or serve another key role within the committee

 

          i.  Marketing/Promotions – promoting the club, events online, offline, and through traditional media - Marijean, Jim, and Steve

 

          ii. “Party Planning” – securing venues, meeting times, equipment, happy hour specials/perks - Alexandra, Sasha

 

          iii. Club Coordinator - Todd

 

          iv. Sponsorship - will begin focusing on sponsorship towards the end of the year

 

     c. Each meeting will have an event lead. This person is responsible for coordinating the event and working with the various committees and Todd to promote it.

 

     d. The committee will meet once a quarter. Next meeting will be in October.

 

Online Tools

 

 

 

    a. Our Facebook page will be our MAIN online space. Please help us get to 100 fans so we can have a vanity URL. Everyone on the marketing/promotions team has admin access to the page.
