On this page, we'll try to provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Social Media - both in general and pertaining to our Corpus Christi attendees.  We will post questions from the meetings here as well, so check back often!  The topic of Social Media is a broad one, so let us know if there is an area we haven't highlighted that you would like to know more about.  P.S. This is a work in progress - please bear with us!

What is Social Media? - A Working Definition to Share with Others

See Blog Post here for original definition.

Social Media is redefining how we relate to each other as humans and how we as humans relate to the organizations that serve us. While it is commonly represented by blogs, podcasts, vlogs, wikis, user generated content and social networks, it is not about those specific things as much as it is about what happens around and because of those things. This includes most notably the ability and desire to easily share with each other, to build upon that which is shared and to discover people, places and things that are of interest to you, because the sharing of these things with these new tools, is making visible that which was previously unknown.

What should I Tweet?

Of course, the answer to this question is entirely dependent on WHY you are on Twitter.

If you are on to share and gather information

- Relate it to who you are

- Don't Tweet it unless you mean it (you can't take it back)

- Be informative

If you are on Twitter for marketing purposes

- Use social skills!

- Be honest & truthful to yourself & your brand

- Dont' oversell yourself

There are many reasons you may be on Twitter, and either of the previous examples can be applied to each in it's own way.  The sooner you figure out WHY you are on Twitter and what you're looking to get out of it, the easier it will be to decide WHAT to Tweet.

How do I find people on Twitter?

There are many ways to find people on Twitter.  If you know the name of the person you are looking for, you can use the "Find People" tab located in the upper right hand corner of your Twitter page.  If you'd like to find other people using Twitter in your area, you can visit www.twitterlocal.net to find out who's Tweeting near you.

Twellow is a sort of Twitter directory that takes publicly available messages from the Twitter.com micro-blogging service, analyzes them, and then categorizes the Twitterers by various categories.  In addition to Twitter, they're  working on adding more social media services to the directory as well.

There are many other directories, sites, and apps that will help you find who you are looking for.  You'll need to explore these to see which ones work best for you.

What are the best Twitter apps to use?

Due the exponential growth Twitter has experienced, we now have more Twitter apps than we know what to do with.  Everyone has there favorites, whether it be Tweedeck, Twitteriffic, Twhirl  or Twitteroo.  Luckily some nice folks out there have put together a Twitter App page that will help you sort through to find the app that best suits your needs.
